How it Started

ATvanced Care started out as a smart home design and installation company. However, one day they were called upon when Aaron’s grandfather suffered a serious fall and injury. After being released from the hospital, his grandfather did not recover as expected and needed extensive monitoring and care. At this point, the family considered selling his home and moving him to assisted living.

Fortunately, Aaron’s father reached out and asked if there was anything they could do to help. That’s when the change happened – the company realized that many of the smart home devices they already worked with could be adapted to assist in caring for Aaron’s grandfather and enable his independent living. After a period of thoughtful development and testing, they were able to create a system with sensors, emergency response, hands-free calling, and other helpful features. This allowed Aaron’s grandfather to remain living independently in his own home, which he continues to do to this day at 90 years old.

Seeing the success of this system in supporting Aaron’s grandfather’s independent living, the company decided to shift the focus of their business to helping the elderly and those with developmental disabilities achieve greater independence through the use of assistive technology. They changed their name to ATvanced Care, which reflects their new specialization in “Assistive Tech” – providing advanced care via assistive technology solutions to enable independent living.

Aaron Shepherd

Aaron has always had an interest and skillset in technology, a passion for helping people, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Aaron is married, and has two wonderful children. He is backyard neighbors with his own parents and loves being able to work on renovation projects with his dad, fish in the lake with his son, and watch his daughter discover the world at the exciting age of one. Family is extremely important to Aaron, and the experiences of his own family members are the driving force behind ATvanced Care. He has witnessed firsthand the transformative impact smart assistive technology has had on the quality of his grandfather's life and independent living, and often wonders how AT (assistive technology) could have improved his uncle's quality of life and enabled greater independence had it been available 20 years ago. Through ATvanced Care, Aaron is dedicated to leveraging technology to support and empower those with special needs, as well as seniors, to achieve greater independent living. His goal is to bridge the gap between technology and accessibility, ensuring that all individuals can benefit from the advancements in the tech world and maintain their independence.
